Description
For Sale: 5-string banjo1903 AC Fairbanks Whyte Laydie #7 serial number 22724 (pre-factory fire)original inlay by Icilio Consalvipot diameter 10 ¾”, scale 26 ¼”Restoration by Doug Unger March 2003:• minor neck inlay repair (no re-inking)• new calfskin head• fretboard reglued at upper 5 frets• Doug judged the neck distortion not enough to justify rebuildingCondition: Very Goodfingerboard wear at first 3 frets some brackets tarnished typical cracking in pearwood peg headdistortion in neck: when a straight edge is laid on the first and last frets, the space under it at the middle fret is .033 inches which is about 1.32 times the thickness of a mat knife blade.with a low bridge the distortion is not readily noticeable and when capoed at the second fret the playing action is normal.Earlier this year I sold the sister to this banjo for $14,000 and it had a longer scale, larger pot, inlay damage, and shell binding damage, but less playing wear and a straight neck.
