1972 SOBRINOS DE DOMINGO ESTESO ( CONDE HERMANOS ) Primera "1A" Flamenco Guitar Handbuilt by Faustino Conde =============================== *** NEW LOWER "BUY IT NOW !" PRICE !!! *** ====================================== Madrid; 1972 The world is about to hear a style of flamenco guitar so new & innovative that it will send the art of flamenco around the world in such a way never before experienced. The artist : Paco de Lucia. The guitar : Conde Hermanos: ( Sobrinos de Domingo Esteso ) built by Faustino Conde. Not all flamenco guitars are 'equal'. Some are good, many are bad, & a few are Great ! This 1972 Sobrinos de Domingo Esteso is definitely one of "The Great Ones" ! These are few & far between & obviously difficult to come by. I searched for many years & went through a lot of guitars, [ many of them Condes ; both old & new...], before I was finally rewarded with this wonderful "Faustino" Conde built in 1972. This is definitely a "Museum Quality" Instrument ! ============================================ The guitars specifications are as follows: Master Grade German Spruce Soundboard Royal Spanish Cypress back & Sides Spanish Cedar Neck African Ebony Fingerboard Brazilian Rosewood Tuning Pegs Weight - ( INCREDIBLY Lightweight ) - Under 2 lbs ! Scale Length - 667 mm. Nut Width -53 mm. String action is Extremely Low: ( Distance from the top of the 12th fret to the bottom of the Bass "E" string - 3/32"; Treble "e" string- 2.5/32" ) Perfect for Flamenco playing style ! =========================================== This particular guitar was bought Brand New from Faustino Conde in the original shop of Domingo Esteso @ Gravina 7, Madrid. It migrated south to Granada with its owner where it was played lovingly until late 1979 when he brought it back to Faustino to trade in for one of Faustinos Negras; ( which had become quite "In Vogue" during the mid 70's to present day ). Faustino at that point redid the French Polish finish, refretted ( frets are still immaculate ! see pic ), & repaired a loose back brace.; [ a bit sloppy; but solid... see pic, below label... ]. ( As the saying goes : " The Condes build their Flamenco guitars for HORSEPOWER! ; not ornamentation ... " ) The guitar was then bought by an American player who owned it from 1980 until about 9 years ago when I bought the guitar from him. Both he & I played only at home & have taken great care of this wonderful instrument which is still in pretty much * Pristine * Condition ! The original hardshell case is of course included. ( Arrangements can be discussed re: acquiring a newer, more sturdy case for shipping ) =========================================== I always find it difficult to 'describe' a guitars sound with 'words'... The best I can say is that it's definitely what would be described as the "Old World" sound... Think of Paco de Lucias late 60's & early 70's recordings. Or check out the "Camaron; Live in Paris '87" DVD with Tomatito playing his 70's era Conde. THAT, is exactly the sound you will attain with this guitar. Short sustain, powerful & deep basses, & trebles that just 'beg' to be played HARDER !!! This guitar does not 'flatten out' when played aggressively, but rather THRIVES on good strong right hand technique. FANTASTIC for Bulerias ! OLE !!! You can actually 'feel' the bass notes pulse through the back of the guitar & into the pit of your stomach when this guitar is played HARD ! ..................................................... This '72 Sobrinos de Domingo Esteso is a great piece of irreplacable Flamenco History ! You simply cannot find guitars like this anymore !... .................................................... This guitar has 'been my right arm' & obvious favorite for the past 9 years., As you can imagine, it's not easy to part with; This a rare opportunity for someone to own a very rare guitar ! ................................. I challenge anyone to find a Conde with the coveted "Media Luna" headstock & traditonal peg tuners from this Golden Era of flamenco guitars & in this same Great Condition... ANYWHERE !!! ( I wish you 'Good luck' ; as I really don't think you won't be able to...) ................................ *** BIDDERS PLEASE NOTE ! *** The Condes of the Felipe shop in Madrid are now selling a limited edition version of this guitar. Here is the link : www.condehermanos.com Once there; simply click on the " Vda. y Sobrinos Reedition" link to see a 'copy' of this guitar. Their selling price is 14,337 Euros! Which = $19,000.00 USD ! (plus S&H from Spain, duties & taxes ! ...quite possibly another $2000.00 - $3000.00 ) so approximately a "Grand Total" of - $22,000.00 !!! !!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!! ...Why buy a 'Replica' when you can basically buy this Original Sobrinos de Domingo Esteso for AT LEAST $9,000.00 less ! =========================================== THIS GUITAR IS DEFINITELY A "SOUND INVESTMENT "! GUARANTEED to increase in value ! My "Buy It Now!" price is $12,995.00 ... BUT ... please feel free to send in your offers ! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ There are a few guitars that I would consider in trade towards this '72 Conde. They are , in order:1 - Felipe V Conde - A 26 with pegs only ! 2 - Martin OM 42 3 - Martin OM 41 4 - Martin J 41 Special All of these guitars can of course be newer, 'used' models in excellent, original condition. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ *** Are you interested in this guitar at a slightly 'discounted' price ? ... *** If so, & you 'd prefer to email me in a more discreet manner, please feel free to contact me directly & privately at my personal email address.
