This is the bass that was there when it all began! Often referred to as the “slab” or “plank” bodied P-Bass, these basses have got to be the quintessential bass for any bass collector. This original bass is a joy to play. This bass was owned by legendary bass player Carl Radle. If you click on this link you will discover who the artist is. Also, please look at the videos below you will see the actual bass being played by this legend, not only to Oklahoma, but to the world of music. P.S. I've already received several emails from overseas regarding this bass.  I would prefer to keep this bass in the US. This is a truly American Instrument played by a truly American Legend and would like to keep it that way. From the above mentioned link:"This tall and lean, bespectacled figure, hunched over his bass guitar, held down the rhythm section for the likes of  Leon Russell, Gary Lewis & the Playboys, Delaney & Bonnie Bramlett, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Derek & the Dominos, J. J. Cale, Freddie King, Rita Coolidge, Bob Dylan, John Lee Hooker, Art Garfunkel, Buddy Guy and a host of others."   About the bass itself:You are bidding on a Vintage 1952 Fender Precision Bass Guitar. One of a kind with an EXTREMELY Low Serial number 0289 stamped on the bridge as it should be. Now the photos won't lie...This bass has been played...a lot.The pickguard is a replacement as the above mentioned artist had removed it and put in a split coil style pick-up. The route was eventually filled around the pickup, but it has been painted to match the the original butterscotch blonde pattern. It is hard to see...Nice job. The frets are good and meaty. The first four were refret and it is perfect.Plays like butter. The neck shows no breaks or any physical defects or damage. Let's talk about Mojo...The spirit of this bass. This bass has it. If you you are lucky enough to play it (as I have) you can tell this is a really special bass. You are playing 50 plus years of a small quiet piece of musical history.Of people's lives you will be forever connected to.It's a player's instrument. It has been on stage with legends.Yes...it has been played, it is smokey, and sweaty. It shows it's battle scars well and proudly. This bass is a living piece of history. It has been recorded with and heard by millions over several generations.I'd would prefer to see a serious collector give this instrument the honor it deserves...Thanks.      The pickup was replaced. We will include the original which was rewound by Lindy Fralin. Click on the pics for a larger view.  With Leon Russell 1972From www.talkbass.com:In the book "Live at the Fillmore East : a photographic memoir" by Amalie Rothschild, there is a picture of Carl playing what looks like a Telecaster Bass with a split pickup... or maybe it's a Precision with a Telecaster neck. With Delaney & Bonnie, Eric Clapton and George Harrison circa 1971At 2:43 into the video you can take a good look at the split pick-up mentioned above and the electronics plate as shown below.
